There are two parts to our Swimming Club. The first being the beginners section (Junior Dolphins), where you can join and learn to improve your strokes, gain swimming badges and progress up to the competitive side of the club (Senior Dolphins). The competitive side (Senior Dolphins) compete in local swimming galas, the Chilterns League, and our own Splash Galas. In addition, swimmers will be encouraged to compete in the County Championships when they achieve the qualifying times.
An Annual Awards evening is held as well as a number of social events throughout the year. We are affiliated to Bedfordshire ASA/East Region District ASA and have achieved Swim 21 accreditation, the ASA’s club development programme in the skill development category.
History of Lewsey Centre Swimming Club
Lewsey Centre Swimming Club was formed soon after the Lewsey Park pool was opened in 1977 although no records go back that far it was run on an informal basis. This arrangement was changed when the swimming fees were no longer paid to the Lewsey Community Centre in Landrace Road and the club took control of its own finances. This was in 1990 when the first club constitution was created for the promotion of swimming in the local community. This has since been remodelled on the ASA recommended club rules. The focus still remains on providing swimming opportunities to the local community.
Club night has always been on a Thursday and in 2002, the number of sessions was increased to four per week. The club was originally affiliated to Bedfordshire ASA and Midland District ASA, but this is now the East Region ASA.
